In Paris, he learnt about the way of painting of the impressionists which had a great impact on his oeuvre. After emigrating from Russia in 1923 Nilus settled down in the French art capital. The artist worked as well as an art critic and author. His paintings present portraits and figure depictions as well as landscapes and coastal sceneries.
