From a poor family, Václav Brožík was born in Prague in 1851. He studied at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts under Professor Emil Lauffer. He moved to Paris in 1876 and studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in the studio of Bonnat and Gérôme and took part in the Paris Salon, where he mainly exhibited paintings illustrating the history of his native Bohemia.
