Andrzej S. Kowalski was born in 1930 in Sosnowiec. He became a professor of the Krakow branch of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. In 1955, he graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, obtaining diplomas: painter from Adam Marczynski and graphic artist from Ludwik Gardowski. Kowalski later became a member of the Krakow Group, Zaglebie and Arkat groups. He was an active participant in the anti-communist opposition. His work includes easel, wall painting, mosaic, drawing and graphic art.
