    Antonio Mercurio Amorosi was born in 1660 and passed away in 1738. An Italian painter of the late Baroque period, Amorosi was known for his genre scenes and portraits of children.

    Born in Comunanza, then part of the Papal States, Amorosi moved to Rome in 1668, initially intending to become a priest. However, his passion for art led him to train under Giuseppe Ghezzi, where he remained for eleven years before establishing himself as an independent painter around 1690.

    Amorosi’s works often depicted popular life, influenced by the Bamboccianti tradition, which focused on everyday scenes with a touch of caricature. His paintings gained favor among Roman aristocrats, and he received commissions from wealthy patrons, in...
