    Artur Carbonell was a Spanish painter, stage designer, and theatre director who was active in the surrealist movement. He gained recognition through the magazine "L'Amic de les Arts" and made his debut in 1930 at the Galaerías Dalmau in Barcelona. Carbonell presented contemporary and classical plays in Sitges and Barcelona between 1930 and 1936. In 1940, he became a professor at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and resumed directing and decorating theatrical shows the following year. Carbonell's works feature backgrounds that suggest spaces, isolated forms of transparent volumes, and marked lines in mechanical equilibrium. He is represented at the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and the Maricel in Sitges.
