    Dr. Bettie Cilliers-Barnard (born November 11, 1914, Rustenburg, South Africa)

    She is the doyenne of South African artists and has become a legend in her own time. Her first solo exhibition was in 1946 in Pretoria. During her life she worked and studied in Paris, Switzerland, USA and the U.K. and also took part in various Biennials all over the world. The number of exhibitions are numerous.

    Since 1946 she has had 74 solo exhibitions. A number of which have been presented abroad. She has also participated in some 150 national and international group exhibitions. Has received more than 20 awards by local and foreign organizations not only for her prize-winning works of art but also for her unselfis...
