    Cornelis de Baellieur was the son of an art dealer. In 1626 he became free master, in 1634 dean of the Antwerp guild of St. Luke. He mainly created religious representations, stylistically his work is very close to that of Frans Franckens d. J. (1581-1642). Sometimes his pictures were created in collaboration with Hans Jordaens (1595-1643).

    The Carrying of the Cross - Christ and St. Veronika surely represents one of the artist's main works. It is painted on a highly precious, unusually large copper plate.
