Born in Haarlem, Dirck Helmbreeker spent most of his career in Italy, interspersed with brief stays in France and his native country. Father Francesco Marucelli, whose legacy of the collection of books and drawings gave rise to the founding of the Biblioteca Marucelliana in Florence, owned 21 paintings of the painter's hand, including a 'Vendemmia (harvest) 1. The dimensions mentioned in the inventory of his collection correspond to those of our table could be an allegory of Autumn in a suite devoted to the seasons.
