    From 1908 and 1912 Hans Zank (1889-1967) studied at the Art Academy in Leipzig, followed-up by some years of travel. Since the First World War interrupted his artistic development, Zank continued his studies from 1921 to 1929 at the art school of Johann Walter-Kurau in Berlin. Willi Gericke (1895-1970), initially self-taught, also studied with Walter-Kurau from 1921 onwards.

    Already during their joint studies Zank and Gericke developed a harmonious style of painting. With a few exceptions, none of their works are signed. In addition to nude and portrait paintings they created mainly landscapes in an expressive manner, influenced by the artist groups around Max Beckmann and Emil Nolde. From the mid...
