  • Biography

    Kjell Pahr-Iversen Stavanger 1937,

Kjell Pahr-Iversen's pictorial universe is easily recognizable. The rhythmic, vibrating, almost sacred images are usually painted with pastose coats in intense colors. Perhaps most prominent is the yellow color, he himself has stated that "I want to dip the brush in the sun and paint a window to eternity." (Møller, 6).

In 1945, Pahr-Iversen lost his right eye after being injured in a shooting accident. This resulted in a number of operations in the years ahead. "My need for image is born of the damage. It is unconditionally born of the damage ... The torn must be recovered, the crooked must be straightened again. The injury makes me want to see the whole thing. " (Møller, 85).
