    Born in Leeds, England in 1963, he attended Goldsmiths College at the University of London and the Leeds College of Art. Harvey befriended other artists such as Damien Hirst and Stuart Allen, who encouraged his painting. Though he did not take part in the Freeze show, which was to be considered the beginning of the Young British Artist group, he did participate in other shows including Hirst-curated Some Went Mad, Some Ran Away (1994).

    His most notorious work is Myra, a large black and white portrait of the infamous murderer Myra Hindley composed of the stencilled hand prints of children. It was the subject of much controversy when it was installed at the Sensation exhibition in 1997. The work had to be protected by a...
