Noel McKenna is a contemporary Australian artist known for his map series that combines dialogues of nationhood and place. He initially enrolled in architecture at university but was advised to pursue art school instead. His map works are informative, although selectively so, and address the redundancy of traditional maps. McKenna's Centennial Park map includes notes on vicious crimes and murders that have taken place across the park, the acknowledgement of displacement of the traditional Indigenous land, and his own personal anecdotes. He spends a lot of time in Centennial Park and researched different aspects of the park to add to the painting
