    Thaddaus (Tadeusz) Cieslewski (father, senior, elder) was born in 1870 in Warsaw. He studied painting at the Drawing School in Warsaw with W. Gerson and Kauzik. He spent the years 1895-1896 in Paris studying at the Academie Vitti and with E. Aman-Jean and R. Collin. In 1898 Thaddaus (Tadeusz) Cieslewski was awarded a silver medal for a series of postcards on Warsaw. In 1928 and 1951 he was awarded the City of Warsaw Award. He painted in oil, tempera, gouache, pastels and watercolors. The subjects of his works were landscapes, portraits, still lifes, but he most often painted the architecture and monuments of Warsaw.
