    Theo Von Brockhusen studied from 1897 to 1903 with Ludwig Dettmann at the Königsberg Art Academy, among others. In 1904 he moved to Berlin, where he soon joined the Secession. A trip to Paris in 1909 led to an intensive examination of the work of Vincent van Gogh, whose bright colors and expressive brushwork significantly impressed and shaped him.

    The artist soon created numerous landscape paintings with his unique combination of impressionist impression and expressionist expression. A contemporary aptly described Brockhusen's unique flair for color:
