    Uriash Puqiqnak CM (born 1946) (1)

    A prominent Inuit* Canadian, Uriash Puqiqnak (disc number* E4-556) was born in the Utkuhiksalik, Back River, area on Chantrey Inlet, Nunavut (April 15, 1946) and lives in Gjoa Haven (aka: Uqsuqtuuq), Nunavut. He is a carver, sculptor, educator, historian, and an important leader in the Nunavut community. He has served in their legislature as an MLA (2000 – 2004) and as Acting Speaker (2000); and, as Mayor of Gjoa Haven (2005 – 2009). He has also served on the town council, and on various influential local, territorial, and national committees. He was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada* (CM) in 2005 and his biography is in the Canadian Who’s Who book. His art works have been exhibited widely...
