    Zoia Lagerkrans, born Korvin-Krukowskaja in St. Petersburg, was a pupil of Vassily Kandinsky. She studied at the Moscow Academy of Sciences before moving to Sweden in 1922 and then to Paris from 1925 to 1930, where she studied with Fernand Léger and Tsuguharu Foujita at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Her artwork style is influenced by Dutch still-life painting and 13th-century Italian church art. Zoia's first solo exhibition in 1929 at the Galerie Bernheim-Jeune in Paris featured only portraits. Her notable subjects included the Iranian Empress Farah Pahlavi, King Hassan of Morocco, Queen Silvia of Sweden, and Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev.
