Allan Rzepka was for many years associated with the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland, where he studied and then lectured. He developed a characteristic, figurative style in which there are fantastic and symbolic elements. Rzepka uses a realistic painting language to depict themes borrowed from the painting tradition, for example from the art of Young Poland, which is often inspired. Rzepka arranges realistically painted objects and figures into symbolic compositions. As in Polish art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, to which the painter eagerly refers, the meaning of the symbols is not clear. This makes Rzepka's art evoke associations with the painting of such symbolists as, for example, Jacek Malczewski.
