From 1885 to 1891 Konstantin Semenovich Vysotskij studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under Vladimir Makovsky and E. Sorokin. Already during his studies he was awarded two silver medals. He worked as an illustrator for various magazines and illustrated several books. From 1895 onwards Vysotskij participated in numerous exhibitions. In 1918 he emigrated to Latvia where he worked as a teacher and freelance artist. In the 1920s and 30s his work was shown in a number of solo exhibitions in the Riga City Museum. In addition, the artist took part in group exhibitions in Berlin, London, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Los Angeles.
