Inspired by Ivan Aivazovsky, he explored marine subjects. Givanian spent time in Italy, married an Italian woman upon his return to Asia Minor, settled in Odessa in 1894, and later spent four years in St. Petersburg. He passed away in Istanbul in 1906.
