Jean Baptiste Charles Claudot was a landscape painter from Lorraine. The son of a lawyer at the sovereign court of Lorraine, Claudot became a pupil of Jean Girardet and André Joly and later he went to Paris to finish his studies with the celebrated painter Claude-Joseph Vernet. Jean Baptiste Charles Claudot was a landscape painter from Lorraine. The son of a lawyer at the sovereign court of Lorraine, Claudot became a pupil of Jean Girardet and André Joly and later he went to Paris to finish his studies with the celebrated painter Claude-Joseph Vernet. Claudot’s stay in Paris was brief, however, for he returned to Nancy in 1765.
