He studied painting and sculpture with masters Guillermo Laborde and Severino Pose at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, and later with Carlos Prevosti at the Escuela Taller de Artes Plásticas. In 1951 he was appointed Advisor to the Ministry of Education and in that capacity he served that same year as Curator of the Uruguayan delegation to the First Bienal de Sao Paulo.
