He subsequently worked in Vienna from 1726 to 1734 before returning to Munich in 1734. Prince-Elector Karl Albrecht of Bavaria appointed him court sculptor in 1737. He subsequently worked in Vienna from 1726 to 1734 before returning to Munich in 1734. Prince-Elector Karl Albrecht of Bavaria appointed him court sculptor in 1737. Straub mainly decorated churches and monasteries in Upper Bavaria, and his workshop was the most important in Munich at his time. His most important pupil was Ignaz Günther. Straub died in Munich in 1784.
