Exploring the dramatic and varied landscape of this community by the ocean in his youth would kindle a life long love of the natural world that would inspire Clayton’s direction as a fine artist later in life. Between 1984 and 1988 Anderson earned a degree in Visual Communications at the Alberta College of Art & Design. After a brief stint in the advertising art department of Western Living and Vancouver magazines Anderson turned to fine art painting exclusively in 1991. Inspired by iconic Canadian painters such as E.J. Hughes, Emily Carr, and Lawren Harris Clayton’s paintings resonate with a unique quality that seek to evoke a sense of place.
