How Listing Services Work

Posting your upcoming fine art auctions on askART helps you connect your auction to the art world. We are a fine art marketplace and research database covering over 500,000 artists from around the world and have 500,000 "unique" visitors per month. Our database is used by auction houses, collectors, dealers, librarians, curators, educators, appraisers, museums, artists, art aficionados and students, giving your information a wide audience of potential buyers as well as consignors. Let us help you get your upcoming auction in front of them.

Our site is all about fine art auction records! We are happy to list your fine art auction lots and results on askART. This includes creating a listing for your company in our Directory of Auction Houses with your auction details.

Your auction information will be visible across several key areas of the site:

  • Upcoming at Auction Search Page – where collectors actively browse by artist and date
  • Individual Artist Pages — the most common way subscribers discover new offerings
  • Auction House Listings – where visitors can browse all lots within a single sale

In addition, many subscribers which include collectors, researchers, appraisers, and dealers, opt-in to receive artist-specific alerts. They receive email notifications as soon as your lots are posted on askART.

Consignors love seeing their artworks listed on askART. Your auction lots will remain permanently associated with the artists' records. This visibility helps promote future consignments, draws attention to your auctions, and enhances the value and reach of your marketing.

We would welcome the opportunity to showcase your auction house's sales to our global audience and look forward to working with you.

First, we ask that you send us the information about your upcoming auction about two weeks prior to the auction. Our staff will then enter all qualifying fine art lots on our site and arrange payment. As soon as your auction goes live on askART alerts will be sent out to interested clients and potential customers. askART was the first one to launch the artist alerts feature in 2000, over 25 years ago, so we have a huge database of opt-in alert subscribers. Our minimum fee for this service is $50, which covers the posting of 10 auction lots. Additional lots are assessed at $5 per lot up to a maximum amount of $350. In other words, you never pay more than $350 per auction, even if the lot count goes above 70. We require that you submit all qualifying fine art lots for each auction. Once the auction is complete you will submit the results to us within a week for posting.

Please send your data at least ten days before the auction so that we have time to post it and our mutual customers have time to contact you for bids. We will register your house with askART and create a listing for your company in our Auction House Directory.

We'd like the following information in an Excel spreadsheet or tab delimited file for American and international fine art lots:

  • Auction Start Date
  • Auction End Date
  • Lot Number
  • Artist First Name, Middle Name, Last Name
  • Artist Birth Year & Death Year
  • Low Estimate & High Estimate
  • Title of the painting or sculpture
  • Signature (e.g., signed lower right)
  • Height, Width, Depth
  • Medium & Ground
  • Year artwork was created
  • Edition (for sculptures)
  • Provenance, Exhibited, Literature
  • Condition & Lot Notes

Please leave blank any information that you may not have about the lot (e.g., Artist Death Year).

Images:

Please submit the zipped images by ftp, wetransfer, dropbox or similar service. This can be arranged with our account managers. The corresponding lot number should be in the title of each image. We support multiple images for each auction lot.

Post-Auction Results:

Please send prices in an Excel spreadsheet to auctionresults@askart.com (by lot number). We require the prices within a week of the auction event.

If the formats above are not possible, we will make other arrangements. If you only have a few lots you could just email the lot data and images to auctionresults@askart.com.

askART lists paintings, drawings and sculpture in our database. As of 2025, we also list monotypes with a minimum estimate of $1,000, all other prints with a minimum estimate of $10,000, and furniture with a minimum estimate of $20,000. If an artist is not yet in the database they will be added as long as the auction estimates for their artwork are at least $300-$500. All qualifying fine art lots in the auction should be submitted to askART for listing and all prices should be reported within 7 days of auction completion.
We only remove lots that have been withdrawn prior to the auction and only if we are notified before the event begins. If we are notified of a withdrawal after the auction, the lot will be marked as withdrawn. We do not remove lots at the request of buyers or consignors, nor do we remove lots that did not sell. Please email us if any addendum changes are made to the auction catalog.

The fact that my askART ads appear in the first 5 Google results is excellent.

I must compliment askART for listing our Gallery(s) and featuring our two annual auctions. It is also our #1 source of information.
