Eduard Karl Franz von Gebhardt (1838-1925), also known as Eduard von Gebhardt, studied three years at the Art Academy of St. Petersburg. After a short stay in Dusseldorf and study trips to Holland and Belgium, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe in 1857/58. From 1860 onward, he was a student of Wilhelm Sohns in Dusseldorf. In 1873 Gebhardt became a professor at the Dusseldorf Academy. (cbo)
