At an early age, he discovered the historic Olot School of landscape artists, which was located near Santa Coloma and included painters like Mir, Vayreda, Urgell, Soler and Jorba. The painter José Beulas Recasens was born in Santa Coloma de Farnés (Gerona) in 1921. It was there that he began creating works that depicted the local landscape. At an early age, he discovered the historic Olot School of landscape artists, which was located near Santa Coloma and included painters like Mir, Vayreda, Urgell, Soler and Jorba. In the early 1940s, he traveled to the province of Huesca. This was a very significant move for Beulas because the landscape of Huesca was to become one of the essential themes of his work. In 1946, he settled in Huesca, and one year later he traveled to Barcelona to take drawing classes at the Baixas Academy.
