Stefan Kürten studied fine arts at the Academy in Düsseldorf in the class of Michael Buthe and at the Art Institute in San Francisco, where he later also taught for a couple of years. In 2007, the Museum Haus Esters in Krefeld showed a survey of his work that he had created since 2001. The exhibition then moved to the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin. In 2007, the Museum Haus Esters in Krefeld showed a survey of his work that he had created since 2001. The exhibition then moved to the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin. His paintings are part of the collections of several European institutions, and also of the Museum of Modern Art New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Montreal Museum of Art. Five of his works were exhibited in 2012 as part of the exhibition 'Gesamtkunstwerk, New Art From Germany' at Saatchi Gallery.
