He first studied architecture at the Dusseldorf Academy from 1836 to 1838 and worked in that profession until 1840, when he turned to painting. He then became a pupil of Andreas Achenbach at the Düsseldorf Academy, and in 1900 became a professor at the Academy. He then became a pupil of Andreas Achenbach at the Düsseldorf Academy, and in 1900 became a professor at the Academy. Flamm became even more closely associated with Achenbach when the professor's brother, Oswald Achenbach, married Flamm's sister. From 1850 to 1853, Albert Flamm made several trips to Italy, and there found the subject matter of Italian scenery, which became his signature work. Rome with its warm, bright sunlight was of special interest, but he also spent time in southern Italy.... Read full biography
