Wuermer was born in Munich, Germany, and in 1915, emigrated to Chicago where from 1920 to 1924, he studied at the Art Institute with Wellington Reynolds. Wuermer was born in Munich, Germany, and in 1915, emigrated to Chicago where from 1920 to 1924, he studied at the Art Institute with Wellington Reynolds. He then went to New York City for study at the Art Students League. In 1929, he was accepted for artist membership by the Grand Central Art Galleries in New York City.
