George Mavroidis was born in Piraeus/Greece of Cypriot parents, he spent his childhood years in Larnaca. He studied Law and Political Science at the University of Athens. In 1946 he joined the diplomatic service from which he resigned in 1959 when he was appointed professor at the School of Fine Arts, a position he held until 1982. He is a self-taught artist who begun to pain systematically at the end of WW2, experimenting with various techniques, such as oils, tempera, watercolor and encaustic... Read full biography

In 1946 he joined the diplomatic service from which he resigned in 1959 when he was appointed professor at the School of Fine Arts, a position he held until 1982. He is a self-taught artist who begun to pain systematically at the end of WW2, experimenting with various techniques, such as oils, tempera, watercolor and encaustic art. During his stay in Paris (1950 - 52) he was able to follow closely contemporary visual trends. He had numerous individual exhibitions in Athens, New York and elsewhere.
