Critics say that Ivo Nikic is one of the most interesting artists of his generation, able to use remarkable, and sometimes very surprising combinations of motifs, techniques and references to recognized and popular conventions in his painting. The painting Switch from 2003 is an exceptional proposition. It is one of the few paintings from before the fire of the artist's studio. Nikic worked in a tenement house at 80 Targowa Street in Warsaw. A theater and over 20 other art studios operated at the same address. In the morning of January 30, 2013, this building was on fire. It resulted in the collapsed floors of the house and the burnt out entire center of the tenement house, and - in the case of Ivo Nikic - the lost creative output of 10 years, as the studio was also a warehouse and archive for the artist. Switch is one of the artist's early works.
