Joan was chosen as a major prizewinner in the 'Brave Art' competition held by the Smith Art Gallery and Museum in Stirling, Scotland. The contest was open to artists inspired by the movie "Braveheart" (based on the life of William Wallace); and Joan's winning painting depicted a group of brawny warriors awaiting battle - determined to defend to the last man - set against a backdrop of the Scottish countryside.
