She studied philology at the University of Vienna and painting at the Vienna Academy with Wolfgang Hollegha. She received her diploma with distinction. She studied with Josef Mikl at the Summer Academy in Salzburg and spent a longer period studying in New York. Joanna has been teaching painting classes in Bad Reichenhall and Geras since 2001. Her focus shifted from working from nature and dealing with old and new masters to using the language of pure painting. Although her painting is not a reflection of reality, it remains intertwined with it in many ways.
