From 1928 onwards Bargheer worked in his studio in his hometown and became a member of the artist group Hamburgische Sezession. He met the art historians Aby Warburg and Erwin Panofsky as well as Paul Klee. In 1940 he moved to Ischia where he witnessed the end of the Second World War.
