After Bessarabia was annexed by Romania in 1918, he moved to Bucharest where he entered the Bucharest Painters Academy where he also worked as an assistant set designer at the National Theatre. After Bessarabia was annexed by Romania in 1918, he moved to Bucharest where he entered the Bucharest Painters Academy where he also worked as an assistant set designer at the National Theatre. In 1922 he traveled to Paris via Greece, Istanbul and Marseilles, a journey which strongly influenced his later landscape painting. In Paris he entered École des Beaux-Arts. A chance meeting with Max Ernst led to Michonze being introduced to a group of Ernst`s fellow Surrealists. Between 1927 and 1930 he was producing still lives and surrealist paintings and he...
