James Princip Barnes Beadle was one of Britian's leading artists of historical and military subjects. While many of his scenes represented contemporary military events such as the Franco-Prussian War, the Boer War and the First World War, he is perhaps most associated for depictions of the Napoleonic Wars and in particular the Peninsular Campaign. Also Beadle made a number of sketching trips to the battlefields of Portugal and Spain.
