Jules Pierre Van Biesbroeck was born in Italy in 1873 to a family of artists. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and exhibited his first painting at the age of 14. He received recognition and awards throughout his career and represented Belgium at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900. Van Biesbroeck's exposure to Orientalism came with a visit to North Africa in 1926, which radically altered his style. He lived and worked in Algiers from 1929-1938, establishing a famous studio...
