Meiffren Conte was a French artist born in Marseille. He specialized in the genre of still life and gained a reputation for his work. He apprenticed with Rodolphe Ziegler and was active in Marseille and Aix between 1656 and 1680. Conte left for Paris between 1671 and 1675 where he associated with the artists of the royal manufacture of the Gobelins. After returning to Marseille, he was appointed as the master painter of the King's galleys and held this position until 1693.
