The son of noted landscape artist, Robert George Kelly, Talbot Kelly was inspired to take up painting himself after taking an inspirational maritime voyage in the 1880's. In 1883, he settled in Egypt where he opened a studio in Cairo, traveling throughout the country to paint the villages and desert communities he encountered, particularly the Bedouins. Fluent in Arabic, Talbot Kelly remained in Egypt until 1915, and he returned to London for his health and aging years, but he remained a devoted painter. Robert George Talbot Kelly passed away in 1934.
