Walter Rudolf Mumprect was born in Basel, Switzerland. After training as a cartographer and lithographer, Mumprecht began teaching himself to paint. From 1949-1954, he lived in Paris. He moved to Zurich in 1956, and temporarily established a studio in Versailles in 1961. There, he created large-scale works. In the early 1950's he devoted himself increasingly to oil painting, and broke away from the objective. He did however, continue to work with a variety of printing techniques. His early... Walter Rudolf Mumprect was born in Basel, Switzerland. After training as a cartographer and lithographer, Mumprecht began teaching himself to paint. From 1949-1954, he lived in Paris. He moved to Zurich in 1956, and temporarily established a studio in Versailles in 1961. There, he created large-scale works. In the early 1950's he devoted himself increasingly to oil painting, and broke away from the objective. He did however, continue to work with a variety of printing techniques. His early works were still largely figurative, and were motivated and influenced by Ferdinand Hodler. Since 1964, the artist lives and works mainly in Köniz near Berne.
