    Abel Bertram was born in Saint-Omer, France in 1871.

    A true Post Impressionist, he studied under Léon Bonnat and Antoine Guillemet. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris in 1899; he won an honorable mention at the same exhibition in 1901.

    Bertram exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1905 to 1939. He also exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuilleries, as well as the Salon National des Beaux-Arts.

    Bertram painted a wide variety of subject matters, including still lifes, landscapes, flowers, and figures. His paintings are distinguished by a unique palette, and unusual use of color. Bertram used primary colors, which he mixed himself to achieve the...
