    Abraham Etungat RCA (1911–1999)

    A prominent Canadian Inuit* sculptor, Abraham Etungat (aka: Inuit disc number* E7-809) was born in Amadjuak settlement on southern Baffin Island and lived in Cape Dorset* (aka: Kinngait), Baffin Island, Nunavut since the 1950s, when he took up carving. Examples of his sculptures are in the permanent collections of many major museums including the National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of History; and, editions of his monumental bronze 'Bird of Spring' are located in public spaces in Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary (fiberglass). Etungat was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1978. (1)(2)
