Adolf Heinrich Lier is among the most important Pleinair landscape painters of the Munich School. He was particularly influenced by his teacher Richard Zimmermann at the academy of fine arts in Munich as well as the French Barbizon School, which he became acquainted with during a study visit in 1861.
