    Adolfo Estrada was born on December 27, 1927 to Spanish parents in San Jose, California who moved the family back to Santander, Spain.

    Estrada started formal art training at The School of Arts & Crafts in Santander and soon made illustrations for the newspaper Alerta. He became involved in the movements of the magazine Proel, the Escuela de Altamira and the exhibitions of the gallery named “Sur”. Adolfo drew close to the leading figures of the cultural life of Santander. He was most influenced by the Cuban born painter Pancho Cossío (1898-1970) and the poet José Hierro (1922-2002).
