    Adriaen Cornelisz Van der Salm was a Dutch artist who lived most of his life in Delfshaven, Netherlands. He was a draughtsman, painter, teacher, and linen trader. He was recorded as the master Teykenaar of the Delft Guild of Saint Luke in 1706. Van der Salm specialized in the technique of penschilderij, which involves drawing in ink with a reed or quill pen on a panel or canvas with a specially prepared gesso surface to produce a highly refined image. His works typically represented marine subjects, whale hunting, or occasionally winter scenes, and they are distinguished by a high attention to detail.
