Agnieszka Brzezanska was born in 1972 in Poland. Brzezanska was later based between Warsaw and Berlin. The artist works in a variety of media including painting, film, illustration and ceramics. She draws inspiration from the natural world, exploring ideas related to astronomy, botany, archaeology, physics, alchemy and philosophy. Often infused with dark, tongue-in-cheek humour, many of her works focus on ecology, decay and environmental concerns: a set of themes conjured in the 2007 painting Black Flower. Though abstract in appearance, the paintings of Agnieszka Brzezanska contain hints of figurative realities, evoking plant life, bodies, hazy pools of smoke, water and fire.
