Born in 1949 in Jbel Lahbib, near Tetouan, Ahmed Afailal began studying visual arts in 1971 at the School of Fine Arts in the White Dove where he obtained his diploma three years later. To sharpen his talents as an artist-painter, in 1974 he joined the School of Applied Arts in Seville, Spain, then the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid, from which he graduated in 1979. Ahmed has since worked as a professor of plastic education in Tangier, but at the same time he still practices painting and engraving.
