From 1816, he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts under Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg. Küchler was influenced by the German-Nazarenes, and in 1830, he moved to Rome. At the invitation of the Pope, he painted numerous religious works, which make up the largest part of his oeuvre. He died in 1886.
