    Born in Copenhagen in 1803, the painter Albert Küchler painted primarily genre scenes and religious subjects. From 1816, he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts under Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg. Küchler was influenced by the German-Nazarenes, and in 1830, he moved to Rome.

    In 1844, he converted to Catholicism, and in 1851, he became even a Franciscan brother. He spent three years in Silesia and settled in the St. Bonaventure Monastery on the Roman Palatine hill. At the invitation of the Pope, he painted numerous religious works, which make up the largest part of his oeuvre. He died in 1886.
