    The artist was born in 1870 in Eichigt, Germany and spent his childhood near Jößnitz. He studied at the Plauen art school and a private Munich painting school before studying with Gabriel von Hackl at the Munich Academy from 1899. He undertook study trips to Tyrol and went on wanderings with Albin Enders in the Black Forest and Franconian Switzerland. He was a member of the "Malergruppe Vogtland" and was active in Plauen and Jößnitz. He was known for his landscape and flower paintings.
