Alejandro Santiago entered the Rufino Tamayo Art Workshop, where he met master Tamayo, Francisco Toledo and other colleagues who inspired to convey his achievements. Later he attended the School of Fine Arts at the University of Oaxaca, where he met master Shinzaburo Takeda.

On leaving college, he entered the workshop of Maestro Juan Alcázar, where he remained about two years doing engraving. In 1985 he held his first solo exhibition at Sol y Luna.
